Who’s Seen the Hanging Arrows in OTR?

If you’ve driven around Over The Rhine lately (and if you haven’t, you should be!), you may have noticed a few fluttering arrows strung up from overhanging wires. We spotted four of them, broadcasting their double-sided messages to the traffic below on McMicken, Race, Main, and Liberty Streets.

Who hung these signs up? What do they mean?

The most easily spotted one, this arrow hangs on McMicken between Main and Vine Streets, claiming “Us” on one side, and “Them” on the other.

“Us”

“Them”

The arrow on Race St, directly across from Findlay Market, offers a message from our friendly cheese-eaters: “Chez Toi” (”Your place,” I think).

“Toi”

The arrow at Main St and Central Pkwy has lost its bottom half and its message. Who knows what it used to say?

Main and Central

A fourth arrow once hanging above Liberty between Main and Walnut has since disappeared. You can see the wire loop where it was attached if you look carefully. I can reliably say that it once said “Cincinnati” on one side, and “2004″ on the other.
