Nice spot to read

There’s a man sitting on a bench reading a book by the Ohio river. He’s there everyday and he never moves.

It’s a statue of James Bradley, a slave turned educator and Underground Railroad conductor.
He fools me everytime I walk down there. In the wintertime, someone usually puts a scarf around his neck and a hat on his head to keep him warm. In the springtime, when everyone is still paying attention to the Reds, you may find him with a Reds cap on his head and a pennant in his hand. I have yet to see any Bengals gear on him, I guess because there usually isn’t any reason for him to cheer.

The statue of James Bradley is located on Riverside Drive in Covington Kentucky. He sits on a bench overlooking the Ohio River and facing Cincinnati.
I used to go there frequently to sit beside Mr. Bradley and write. One time, an African-American man and his little daurhter stopped by. I asked the child what she thought Mr. Bradley was reading, and she said, with NO hesitation, “Well, he’s reading the Bible , of course!” I considered the matter settled.
