I had two events set to write about for this weekend, when I looked over at Soapbox Cincinnati and saw that they had beaten me to it already, and even included more events! Well, here they are anyway. On the longest weekend of daylight of the year, the list of quirky things to do abound. I like to think we have pagans to thank. Thank you pagans.

• RiverSpan Sculpture Exhibition and Sale. “The entire bridge deck will be tented to provide an enjoyable experience to artists and patrons alike, rain or shine.” Hmm, like a giant worm trapped in a purple cage.
• Cincinnati Soapbox Derby. Aside: I once made a car for the Pinewood Derby in Cub Scouts. I didn’t know it was legal to add weight to the car. Hence, I finished dead last, and my car didn’t even make it to the end of the track. Thank you for the self-confidence, Cub Scouts.
• Happen Inc.’s Grand Opening Celebration In Northside. From the creators of the Toy Lab comes a new space in Northside. Promises to be a fun day of art for all ages.
• 48-Hour Film Fest At 20th Century Theater. See the best films that can be made in under 48 hours.

The Taylor-Southgate Bridge is visible above the outfield bleachers of the new stadium.  I think it would be neat to see the Taylor Southgate bridge leading to the Levee, painted a bright color.

Giving the bridges a stronger identity and giving the city a unique identity that that would be recognized nationally as something very unique. Not to detract from their official names, which most people don’t know anyway, but when somebody says take the Yellow bridge , the Blue bridge, Purple bridge, or Red bridge, there won’t be any confusion as to which bridge they are talking about. The proximity of the bridges would really provide a unique colorful image . We are already going in that direction with bright purple and bright yellow.

Lets go all the way.

• A few large bedsheets sewn together somehow
• Acrylic paint (various colors)
• Metal or wooden poles for weight

Plan:

Sew the bedsheets together into a rectangular sign with heavy duty needle and thread (whatever that means). Paint in the most colorful way possible Loosen Up Cincinnati! or some such message across the entire area. Sew the poles into the bottom of the sign for weight.

Under cover of night, walk to the middle of the Taylor-Southgate bridge on the west face, throw your sign over the railing and tie it up. See what happens the next morning!
