National Soul Patch Day

[ May 29, 2009; ] Jacques Munkey writes to us about National Soul Patch Day on May 29th.  (I guess any buffoon can declare a National anything day on the internets.)

What is National Soul Patch Day?  Well, besides the newest, best holiday, it is also a contest with real prizes (well, real t-shirts)!
The soul patch is the very foundation of [...]

Beehive Co-op, A Truly Local Idea

What do Atlanta, New York, and Cincinnati have in common?  Each city now has a Beehive Co-op franchise.  Beehive Co-op is now open in Pleasant Ridge, next to other favorite local independents, Everybody’s Records and Pleasant Perk.  What is a Beehive Co-op?  Well, their press release has the best explanation.
Farmers markets have popularized the idea [...]

R.I.P. Cinci Freedom

Last week, Cincinnati lost a friend.
Cincinnati Freedom, the fugitive cow that drew worldwide headlines when she escaped from a Camp Washington slaughterhouse in 2002 and eluded authorities for 11 days, has died at an animal sanctuary in New York.
I don’t really remember this cow.  And I certainly did not know that her escapades garnered worldwide [...]

Cincinnati Labyrinth Project

Well, I must say this is a different sort of cause.  But a cause I can get behind.  I give you the Cincinnati Labyrinth Project:
Our goal is to facilitate the sale of the Cincinnati Bengals and the creation of a massive stone labyrinth in Paul Brown Stadium.

As a Bengals fan, I hate Mike Brown.  And [...]

Design firm FRCH Worldwide staged a flash mob of sorts on Fountain Square.  The goal was to film it occurring and use the video for their annual holiday greeting.  You can see the raw video below.  You can also see some photos of the event on the company’s Flickr.

Historic Cincinnati: Birthplace of Cornhole

Now along with that weird chili, and that great ice cream, Cincinnati has bragging rights for giving the nation the game of dubious name to replace horseshoes. And national media has finally recognized Cincinnati as the birthplace of cornhole.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the AP had picked up on this important new craze sweeping [...]

A Real Cincinnati Fan Club

Cincinnati is in bad need of some civic spirit. I propose formation of a City of Cincinnati fan club, a simple boosters organization whose sole purpose is to promote and encourage civic pride in our Queen City! But that’s as far as I got with the idea. A cool website that sells merchandise would be a [...]

A Real Queen City Rainbow Welcome

With one bridge bright yellow, and a purple bridge, along with there being recent talk as to the color to paint the suspension bridge by Kentucky. I read many want to paint it a bright kentucky blue. Good idea.
The Taylor-Southgate Bridge is visible above the outfield bleachers of the new stadium.  I think it would [...]

Operation Main Street Beer Mob

A.K.A. We’ll Turn Main Street into a Street Party Whether You Like It Or Not
Need:

 200 of your closest friends.
200 of your closest friends’ beers of choice.

Plan:
City Hall won’t block off Main Street to create an appealing and enjoyable downtown weekend entertainment area, so we’ll just have to do it ourselves. They’re too uptight to take [...]
